Marketing Ethics During Economic Downturns

Taree Bollinger, CPSM and Pamela Heeke, CPSM currently work in the professional services industry as marketers.  They are employed by FCS GROUP, which serves a niche market within the A/E/C industry.  As vice president of business & finance, Taree oversees and directs the firm's business practices, which include marketing, financial operations, accounting, human resources, systems administration, and facilities management activities.

Pam is the firm's marketing manager.  Pam has been a professional services marketer since 1996, holding positions with architecture, engineering, construction, and financial and management consulting firms.  She has been an active member of SMPS since 1997, chairing various committees and serving on the boards of directors for both the Indiana and Seattle chapters.  She is past president of the Seattle chapter.  Pam is currently working towards a Masters degree in Leadership and Organization Development from the Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS).

Taree has been a professional services marketer for 15 years.  She is a nactive member of SMPS, where she chaired the chapter's 2007 & 2010 Salary Review Committees.  In addition to co-authoring the 2009 SMPS Foundation white paper on ethics, she wrote a white paper on gaining a seat at the boardrom table and presented her findings at the SMPS Build Business national conference in Denver in 2008.  She currently serves as a member of the SMPS Foundation's 2010 White Paper Task Force.

Pam and Taree also presented a workshop on "If Tradeshows Aren't Working For You, Maybe You're Not Working the Shows" for the Seattle SMPS chapter in January of 2009.

"You Be the Judge" provides highlights from the speakers' white paper "Marketing Ethics: The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But the Truth....Or Not" which was presented at SMPS Build Business national conference in Las Vegas last summer.  (To download a copy of the white paper go to the www.SMPS.org and look in the lower left hand corder under New SMPS Foundation Publications for a link).  Those attending this offfering will be privy to excerpts from the authors' interviews with renowned A/E/C marketers such as Ford Harding, and learn where the experts personally draw the line on some of these practices.
