Lean Architecture - Speaker and Program Information

Michael F. Czap, AIA is a principal with the Dallas office of RTKL Associates, Inc., an international architecture and engineering firm. He has over twenty-eight years of broad experience in Architectural Planning, Design, Production and Contract Administration. He is skilled at project organization and delivery, the process of putting a building together and coordinating a thorough team effort. An accomplished speaker, Mr. Czap has spoken on advanced Project Delivery processes and Building Information Modeling (BIM) at numerous conferences including several AIA National Conventions. He has contributed articles to the AIA Best Practices and chapter 13, the AIA Practice Management Digest.

Lean Architecture: Excellence in Project Delivery:
Lean Architecture is the ongoing process of rethinking and improving architectural methodology. It is the pursuit of better work by applying “lean” principles to every aspect of design practice. It is about working more strategically, with smarter information flow, and understanding how we perceive and process information.

So come take a thought-provoking journey through the complex dynamics and often stormy waters of project delivery. This fast paced program covers the basics of Lean Thinking with the three goals for implementation and applies these to Design, Management, Documentation, and Technology. The program explores the application to building design of Knowledge Based Development and Operational Modeling by Computer Simulation. It highlights innovative and proven methods for achieving greater accuracy and productivity in your documentation. The program includes a philosophical evaluation of document organization, referencing systems and document complexity. It examines techniques and methodologies that have proven successful in preparing construction documents including plans, sections, scheduling systems, referencing systems and default systems designed to eliminate redundancy.

Lean Architecture is not about skipping necessary steps or leaving out important information. To the contrary, it is identifying what adds value and reducing or eliminating what doesn’t. Marshaling diverse resources and expertise across a firm to design and consistently deliver quality services can be a difficult endeavor. Nevertheless, in spite of the technical challenges and increasing project complexity, Excellence in Project Delivery can become the rule - if we’re willing to reexamine the fundamentals of how we work and why.
