"Spokane Transity Authority"
Susan Meyer, the new Director of Spokane Transit, was the speaker at the January MAS meeting. The attendees learned about STA's future plans including the various mass transit options such as a light rail transportation system.
February
"MAS Round-up"
In February, Marketing Associates of Spokane held it's first ever "MAS Round-Up." This forum provided participants the opportunity to network with other professionals, friends, and colleagues and discuss topics that are pertinent to succeeding in marketing, sales, and business.
March
"The Spokane School District #81 Levy"
The March MAS luncheon featured Dr. Mark Anderson, Associate Superintendent for Spokane School District #81. In his presentation. Dr. Anderson addressed the background and history of school levy and bond issues and identified the key facts and figures of the current school district levy being voted on by Spokane voters this month.
April
"Grass Roots Leadership for the A/E/C Professionals"
In April, Rob Ziegler conducted a special half-day workshop that taught attendees how to create opportunities to lead, influence, organize and empower at a "grassroots" level in their firms. Other workshop elements included:
- The essentials of good leadership and management practices
- Building, leading and motivating high performance teams
- Translating leadership into client service
- Initiating and managing change efforts
- Staff training techniques
- Management and motivational techniques

"How to improve your firm's marketing materials to make a better impression"
Rick Hosmer of Klundt Hosmer presented on the importance of improving your firm's marketing materials... and simple, low-cost ways to do that. Members also learned how we can develop and manage well-designed marketing materials in-house. Using examples of their firm's work with regional construction, architectural, and engineering firms, they took us through an interactive seminar focusing on the improvement of three essential marketing collateral items:
- Web Sites
- Proposals
- Direct Mail

"The Kendal Yards Development"
Tom Reese, Project Manager for the Kendall Yards Development discussed at the June 8th meeting the latest happenings with the Kendall Yards project, the broadening vision for the downtown of Spokane…as seen through the eyes of Marshall Chesrown. Formerly known as the Summit Property, Chesrown’s vision began to unfold after the acquisition of the property last year. Directly connected to downtown by iconic bridges spanning the Spokane River, Kendall Yards presents a fresh new urban living experience that extends and animates Spokane’s unique sense of place.

MAS Summer Social - Northern Lights Brewery
About 30 MASters enjoyed beautiful summer weather, good company, great food & beverages on Friday, June 23rd. Besides the usual partygoers, we were also treated to some very special guests. Jennifer V.V. brought a longtime friend from Denver and was able to squeeze the MAS social in between Silverwood and an Indians game. Allen Battle brought a friend, as did Cynthia Zumwalt and Mark Newman. Marty O brought no less than two friends a fringe benefit of organizing the event. Conversation was lively as ever, and the group stayed well past the estimated 10pm end time. This social event has become so much fun, were looking at holding next years event on the patio overlooking the falls at Anthonys! Stay tuned.

"Career Mobility/Delvelopment"
A panel presentation by Bill Strong with Mahlum Architects, Valerie Williams with Two Creeks Consulting, and Carla Thompson with Designed2Win shared their stories on how they "worked their way up" in their respective A/E/C firms. During this extended meeting, the panel answered our questions on a variety of career and marketing topics and educated, entertained, and inspired our members with their knowledge and insight.

"Five Principals of Teamwork and Leadership"
Will Parks from Adventure Dynamics presented the Five Principals of Teamwork and Leadership that he developed over the past 20 years. Mr. Parks gave attendees ways to use these five principals in various office settings and even impact their bottom line. He inspired the group with the spirit of, "IF WE WIN, I WIN!"
