Marketing Ethics During Economic Downturns: You Be the Judge

Presenter:Taree Bollinger, CPSM & Pam Heeke, CPSM
Date:5/13/2010
Time:11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Location:Red Lion River Inn
Spokane, WA
Member Price:$20.00
Non Member Price:$30.00
Join MAS as we learn about "Marketing Ethics During Economic Downturns."  The temptation to push ethical boundaries grows as marketing opportunities decrease and competition intensifies.  Tactics that were previously frowned upon - bait and switch, low balling and stretching the truth - appear to garner more consideration when preparing proposals during periods of monetary crises.  "Hey, just win the project for us; we'll negotiate the details at the bargaining table."  After all, everybody's doing it.

Did your firm change their marketing strategies during the recent economic downturn?  Were you asked to perform activities which made you feel uncomfortable because they were outside your personal code of ethics? Did they work? Was the reward worth the risk?

As work becomes scarce, it is easy to blur the distinction between finessing the sale and telling out and out lies.  After all, isn't buffering and gamesmanship expected in the business world? Pam and Taree invite "you to be the judge" by participating in a lively marketing ethics workshop that combines discussion and exercises at the May luncheon.  You will learn to:
- Judge your own ethics by applying a self test
- Explore alternative solutions to "everybody's doing it"
- Differentiate between unethical and illegal behavior

For a sneak preview, read the October 2009 issue of "The Marketer" which features the speakers' latest article on marketing ethics.  View more information about the speakers Pam Heeke & Taree Bollinger.

Dr. Janet Sanders will answer the following questions and more, leveraging her 25 years of communications and consulting experience, as well as her management tenures with Fortune 500 companies:
-How can we get decision-makers to want us if we don't know who they are?
-How can we convince decision-makers we'll give them what they want and need if we don't know what that is?
-How can we demonstrate we're better than the competition when we don't know who else is on the short list?
-How can we build rapport and trust with people unknown to us?
-How can we explain possible solutions to challenges hidden from us?

Justice should be blind, but strategy can't be.  This workshop identifies the data a firm needs to wire the work, be #1 at the end of a competitive selection, and how to find the work.  Participants will come away with a list of critical questions - as well as tools and techniques for getting answers that a variety of firm personnel can employ - to win more.
